Submit an abstract for the RCN Emergency Care Association Conference and Exhibit

The RCN Emergency Care Association are now accepting abstracts for their conference and exhibit 15th - 16th November at the Renaissance Marriott Manchester City Centre Hotel

Abstracts are invited for plenary, poster, concurrent and workshop presentations and should fall into one of the following themes:

  • Improving care, either at individual or unit level
  • Efficient care - related to processes or clinical aspects of care
  • Risk assessment
  • Whistle blowing at unit/national level
  • Major trauma - either related to MTCs or transfer, individual conditions, case studies etc
  • Patient experience
  • Patient safety
  • Ambulatory care pathways

Please do not feel that this list excludes you from sending in an abstract that may interest your colleagues in Urgent/Emergency Care, as they would not like to miss an excellent session simply because it does not fit into one of these categories.

Abstract purpose
The purpose of the abstract is twofold. Firstly, it will enable the committee to make an informed anonymous decision on the suitability of the presentation for the conference programme.

Secondly, the abstract will provide the participants attending the conference with written information to support the presentation.

Types of presentations

Plenary presentation
Plenary presentations are delivered in the main conference hall to all conference delegates and are 30 minutes sessions.

Concurrent session
Concurrent session papers are presented orally. Presenters are allocated a maximum of 20 minutes presentation followed by five minutes of discussion and questions.

Poster presentation
Poster presentations are visual displays of material to be presented and exhibited throughout the duration of the conference. Posters have the potential to reach a wide audience, and constitute an interactive medium which is best suited to the presentation of factual data e.g. project, design of findings.

Workshop
Workshops are interactive sessions of 60 minutes duration where the presenter works with participants to develop their knowledge and understanding within a specific field. A workshop is lead by an expert within the field and may be pitched at a novice, intermediate or advanced level.

Criteria for abstract selection

  • Material presented in abstracts must be concise and coherent, with the focus of the abstract stated clearly.
  • The authors must make explicit what they intend to present.
  • The abstract title should be short and clearly declare the content of the abstract.
  • Abstracts reporting on the results of research studies should be structured: Background, aims, methods, results, discussion and conclusions.
  • Relevant contextual information must be given.
  • Authors must specify how the paper will contribute to the development of knowledge and policy and practice within health and health care.
  • All abstracts must be written in English. All accepted abstracts will be published 'as submitted'. It is therefore incumbent upon the author to ensure that the spelling, grammar and syntax is of an academic publishing standard.
  • Abstracts for poster and concurrent presentations must not contain information which could identify the authors, as these are reviewed blind.
  • For poster and concurrent presentations up to three references may be cited and these must be provided using the Harvard referencing system.
