ACO SLMS Academic Role Models

The Academic Careers Office launched in 2012 their Academic Role Models project, which looked to find a wide range of backgrounds, at different stages in their careers, who all have had a positive impact on others and are passionate about what they do.

Forty role models were chosen from across the four Facilties in the School of Life and Medical Sciences.

These inspirational role models were:

  • from any grade
  • from any background
  • clinical or non-clinical
  • from either a teaching or research background.

They have a wide variety of characteristics, for example:

  • they may be excellent teachers
  • excellent communicators who inspire the next generation of future academics
  • individuals who have accomplished significant achievements and established successful careers against the odds
  • scientific researchers of international repute or researchers involved in projects which are of direct benefit to our local communities and those who balance research with NHS commitments.
